Hi, I'm working as an IT Manager. In our office, we are using MS SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition.
This was installed before i join our company. So i don't have any idea about the License. When i checked with our vendor they told we have purchased a MS SQL Server 2008 Enterprise License, i know with this license we could install MS SQL 2005 Enterprise. But I'm not sure whether the previous IT used this License. I need help from some expertise regarding this matter that how i can check this in my SQL Server. From one the forum from Google they asked me to do the following:.

Ms Sql Server 2005 Express Edition
SELECT SERVERPROPERTY('LicenseType'). SELECT SERVERPROPERTY('Edition') And my results are:. DISABLED. ENTERPRISE EDITION So let me know what does the above mean? If 'Disabled' means it's not licensed then is there any way to make to my SQL Server 2005 to make my SQL licensed by getting my license details from our vendor to get Product Key from Microsoft. Please help me.

Best Regards Shijin Prasad, MCITP, MCTS, B-tech IT Manager Shijin Prasad. Regarding licensing information, SELECT SERVERPROPERTY('LicenseType') always return DISABLED, I tried on one of our licensed installation of SQL server 2005 and received DISABLED too. Starting with SQL Server 2005, licensing information is not stored in registry during the setup neither you need to enter product key during the setup. Licensing is tracked merely tracked using a paper trail.or email you received when you purchase SQL server from microsoft store etc.but not with the product itself. Note: Licensing has always been server wide and not SQL instance specific. This setting would apply to all instances of SQL Server on the server. HKEYLOCALMACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft Microsoft SQL Server 90 MSSQLLicenseInfo MSSQL9.00' But i couldn't find the ' MSSQLLicenseInfo' in my registry. So i guess my MS SQL Server is not licensed right? Best Regards Shijin Prasad, MCITP, MCTS, B-tech IT Manager Shijin Prasad. SQL Server does not add this key anymore. You can add it yourself if you'd like.
I ran a similar test on a SQL Server 2012 box by adding the following key: HKEYLOCALMACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft Microsoft SQL Server 110 MSSQLLicenseInfo MSSQL11.0 with Mode, DWord, 2 and ConcurrentLimit, DWord, 4 I then restarted the SQL Server service and ran the query: SELECT ServerProperty ( 'LicenseType' ) as LicenseType, ServerProperty ( 'NumLicenses' ) as ProcessorCount returns: Server Name LicenseType ProcessorCount InstanceName PERPROCESSOR 4 Chris.
